U.S. Sen. Katie Britt delivered the Republican rebuttal to President Joe Biden's State of the Union address Thursday night in a kitchen table speech from her home in Montgomery.

Britt, the only Alabamian to respond, specifically weighed in on Biden's response to the crisis at the southern border, his economic policies, the nation's rising crime rate, and how adversaries perceive America to be weakened on the world stage. focused. .

“Like many families across America, my husband, Wesley, and I were just watching President Biden's State of the Union address from our living room,” Britt said. “What we saw was the performance of a permanent politician who has actually been in power longer than I have been alive.”

Britt said American families are concerned about the direction of the country under the Biden administration.

“I hope he understands what real families go through around the kitchen table like this,” Britt said. “This is where our family has the hard conversations and makes the tough decisions. It's where we share the good, the bad, and the ugly of our days. It's where we laugh together. . So we hold hands and pray for God's guidance. And Wesley and I worry about that every night.”

“We know we are not alone,” the senator continued. “Tonight, American families need to have some tough conversations, because the truth is, we're all concerned about the future of this country.”

“This country we know and love seems to be slipping away,” Britt said. “I feel like the next generation will have fewer opportunities and less freedom than we did. I'm worried that my children won't even have a chance to achieve the American Dream.”

Britt spoke at length about her own personal “American Dream.”

“My American Dream led me, the daughter of two small business owners from Enterprise, Alabama, to be elected to the U.S. Senate at the age of 40. I grew up sweeping floors and cleaning bathrooms at my mom's store. I never imagined what my story would be like in a dance studio.”

He also criticized Biden for halting deportations and granting amnesty to millions of illegal aliens “minutes after taking office.”

She spoke about one of her more sobering experiences in particular, visiting the border.

“When I first took office, I did something different. I traveled to the Del Rio area of ​​Texas and spoke to women there who told me their stories.”

“Bidenomics” and its impact on American families became Britt's next talking point.

“Unfortunately, we know that President Biden's failures don't end there. His reckless spending has dug a hole in our economy and sent the cost of living through the roof. The worst inflation in 40 years. In history. It’s credit card debt at its best.”

“Hardworking families are struggling to make ends meet today.
