Brothers in crime: Murder-for-hire plot ends in life sentence for Coffee County siblings


An Alabama man and his brother were sentenced Thursday by a judge in Montgomery to the equivalent of life in federal prison.

Jason Starr and his brother Darin Starr of Coffee Springs were convicted of carrying out a murder-for-hire plot. caused a fatal shooting Sarah Starr, ex-wife of Jason Starr, mother of four children.

The star reportedly was angry at the amount of money she received after their controversial divorce and hired her brother Darling to kill her.

On November 27, 2017, Darling shot and killed Sarah in her driveway in Enterprise, Alabama as she left for work.

Acting U.S. Attorney Jonathan Ross said a life sentence is appropriate for this crime.

“This premeditated murder devastated the victim's family and the surrounding community,” Ross said. “Jason and Darling Star deserve to spend the rest of their lives separated from society for the horrific crimes they committed.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) credited law enforcement for their work in this case.

“Through the extraordinary work of our investigative team, comprised of the FBI, Coffee County Sheriff's Office, Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, and the Alabama Department of Law Enforcement, these two individuals will be held accountable for their heinous acts.” said FBI Special Agent. Paul Brown is in charge.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family and friends, and we would like to thank our law enforcement partners.”

In addition to the life sentence, the judge ordered Jason Starr to pay a $25,000 fine.

There is no parole in the federal system.
