Candidate Forum for Yavapai County Sheriff Candidates, Saturday, April 27

The Yavapai County local chapter of Constitutional Republican Conservatives (ConCR) has announced that their next meeting will be a Yavapai County Sheriff Candidate Forum this Saturday at 11:15 AM. Both Sheriff David Rose, seeking re-election, and challenger Douglas Eckenrod have accepted the invitation to speak. The meeting is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Sheriff Rose was elected Yavapai County Sheriff in November 2020 after 27 years with the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office (YCSO). He served as the county's chief deputy from 2016 until taking office in January 2021. Sheriff Rose rose through the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant, captain and chief deputy before running unopposed for sheriff. He continues Yavapai County's long tradition of choosing leaders from the ranks of the office. Former sheriffs Buck Buchanan (1989-2004), Steve Waugh (2004-2011), Scott Masher (2011-2020) and current sheriff David Rose were all veterans of the YCSO before being elected to the top job.

In addition to his long tenure with the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Rose has extensive formal training in law enforcement. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has served as Commander of both the YCSO Law Enforcement Division and the Verde Valley County Detention Center. He also served as Commander of the Northern Arizona Training Academy. Challenger Doug Ekenrod is a longtime law enforcement officer in California. Throughout his career, Ekenrod has served in supervisory and senior policy positions within the California corrections system. He has extensive experience with programs to reduce recidivism, provide treatment and rehabilitation, and prepare inmates for re-entry into society.

Eckenrod supports evidence-based criminal justice reform. He has criticized the excessive costs of Yavapai County's new $70 million justice center. Conservatives for a Constitutional Republic (Yavapai County) is a group of conservative activists dedicated to defending and promoting the values ​​of representative government as enshrined in the United States Constitution. They are a private organization and are not directly affiliated with any political party. However, most of the members are registered Republicans or conservative-leaning independents who are involved in social activities or are current or former officeholders or candidates for office.
