Charges brought against Utah man suspected of killing Charlie Kirk; prosecutors aim for death penalty.

Charges Filed in Death of Charlie Kirk

Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray has announced that 22-year-old Tyler James Robinson faces multiple charges, including aggravated murder, in connection with the death of conservative commentator and activist Charlie Kirk. This announcement came during a press conference held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the Utah County Health and Justice Judicial Building in Provo, Utah.

Gray described Kirk’s death as an “American tragedy,” remarking that the shooting represents a crime against the state of Utah as well. He addressed the audience at Utah Valley University, expressing his concerns for those who were present during the violent incident.

Robinson is charged with several offenses, with the aggravated murder charge being a capital felony. If found guilty, he could potentially face the death penalty—a possibility that Gray stated he intends to pursue actively.

“I’m aware of the gravity of this decision. It’s one I made independently, as a county attorney, based solely on the evidence and circumstances surrounding the crime,” Gray asserted.
