Charges recommended in crash that killed Pinal County sheriff’s son and family

Gilbert, Arizona (3TV/CBS 5) — Investigators have filed a recommended indictment against a man allegedly responsible for last December’s horrific crash that killed the son, wife and granddaughter of Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb.

Gilbert Police investigators say they recommend indicting 21-year-old Brian Alexander Torres on three counts of manslaughter. Investigators said Torres was driving from 67 mph to 71 mph in a 45 mph zone before the crash. According to police, Torres’ blood alcohol content (BAC) is at his 0.03, below the state’s legal limit of 0.08 for him. However, testing showed that Torres’ system contained THC.

Brian Torres is said to have caused the clash that killed Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb’s son Cooper, Cooper’s fiancée Caroline Patten, and their 11-month-old daughter.

On December 16, 2022, Torres was driving west in his Chevrolet Silverado pickup on Elliott Road when he collided with a Toyota Corolla at Cole Drive just west of Wrecker Road. Marklam’s son, his 22-year-old Cooper Lamb, and his 11-month-old daughter died at the scene. Cooper Lamb’s fiancé, her 20-year-old Caroline Patten, was driving and nearly died a week later. Patten was about to turn left at the time of her crash. Torres, who was not injured, was arrested at the time on suspicion of DUI.

The case is currently under review by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
