Chuck Schumer’s Approvals Hit 20-Year Low While AOC’s, Hochul’s Rise, NY Poll Shows

A Siena University survey released Tuesday showed that Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer’s positive rating plunged its first rating in 20 years, but the ratings of Democrats, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Democrats, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, improved in April.

According to the poll, Ocasio-Cortez received a favorable rating of 47% from 38% in January 2021. Hochul received a 44% favorable rating, in addition to an unfavourable rating of 40% to 43% in March. According to New York state poll.

Meanwhile, Schumer received a 39% favorable rating, along with a 49% unfavourable rating, according to the survey. It was the first time he’s been negative since June 2024, and the worst case scenario in a Siena University poll dating back to February 2005. “First time in the University of Siena poll: Schumer has 10 points underwater, with multiple voters looking at him at a disadvantage,” Siena University poller Stephen Greenberg wrote in a press release. “He continues to be seen at a disadvantage by more than two-thirds of Republicans and the majority of independents, but Schumer has dramatically defeated Democrats, especially the liberals. Preferential, 47-44%.”

Additionally, 48% of New York’s voters said they have approved the work Hochul is doing as governor, starting from 46% in March.

“For the first time since January 2024, Hochul has a positive, barely positive rating. For the first time since February 2024, we are endorsing the work that multiple voters are doing as governor,” Greenberg wrote.

“Of the eight elected officials and each House of Representatives in the state legislature, the AOC has the highest favourable rating,” Greenberg further wrote. “She is seen favorably by 64% of Democrats (more than Hochul and Schumer) and disadvantageously by 60% of Republicans. Independents are split evenly between 39-39%.
