CNN Anchor Breaks Down ‘Welcome News’ For Trump ‘Among Black And Hispanic Voters’

CNN host Boris Sanchez on Monday pointed to newly released polls showing Republican candidate Donald Trump doing well among black and Hispanic voters, saying it was “great news” for the former president.

The New York Times/Siena vote Sunday's survey found that Vice President Kamala Harris is leading President Trump among Black voters 78% to 14% and among Hispanic voters 55% to 41%, narrower margins than President Joe Biden's 87% to 65% leads among Black and Hispanic voters in 2020. Exit pollsSanchez noted that Trump's approval rating among those two demographics is higher than any Republican candidate has ever received in a general election.

“Trump has a 15-point lead among white voters, while Harris has an advantage among black and Hispanic voters. However, Trump's approval rating among these voters has historically been higher than most Republican presidential candidates, so this is actually good news for the former president,” Sanchez said.

Polls have shown that Trump is gaining support among black voters ahead of the 2024 election. A June 27 New York Times/Siena poll, before President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, found that Trump was garnering 26% support from black voters after receiving 5% support in the 2020 election.

Despite Harris receiving higher approval ratings than Biden among black and Hispanic voters, Trump is still performing well historically: More than 80% of black voters said they would “definitely” or “probably” vote for Harris in August, while 74% said the same about Biden in April. According to According to a Washington Post/Ipsos poll.

One black voter told NewsNation on September 2 that she plans to vote for Trump in November because “people have not been better off” under a Biden-Harris administration. (Related: “Less atmosphere, more policies”: Here's why Harris' approval rating is lower than past Democratic candidates)

Sanchez also noted that 28% of pollsters in the Times/Siena poll said they needed to learn more about Harris, compared with 9% who said the same about Trump. The poll also found that 53% said Trump “represents a big change,” while 25% said Harris represents change.

CBS News/YouGov vote The latest polls released Sunday show Trump and Harris tied 50-50 in Pennsylvania, with Harris leading by one point in Michigan and two points in Wisconsin. Sanchez warned that these figures are within the margin of error and indicate a “stalemate.”

“The winner of these three battleground states will very likely win the White House. And in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, which are deadlocked states according to CBS News/YouGov, there is no clear leader, again within the margin of error of about 3.5 to 4 points,” Sanchez said.
