Cochise County marks the launch of a new border facility

Tucson, Ariz. – New Measures for Border Security in Sierra Vista

Sierra Vista is preparing to enhance how law enforcement agencies manage border security.

The Border Operations Center will allow local, state, and federal officials to oversee the entire 370 miles of the Arizona-Mexico border around the clock.

“We needed Kochise County, Kochise County,” remarked Kochise County Sheriff Mark Dunnell. “We required a partnership that wasn’t reliant on funding.” Until this point, they lacked a cohesive space to collaborate.

This new facility aims to encourage all law enforcement agencies to join the Kochise County Law Enforcement Family, promoting teamwork and a commitment to local and national interests.

Officials believe the center will enhance communication and cooperation among varying law enforcement levels, leading to stronger cases against illegal border activities. The intention is to reduce redundancy and save resources; yet, they acknowledge there’s much more to be done to address community needs.

“We need a lot more here,” said Arizona Attorney General Chris Mays, emphasizing the importance for all border counties, not just Kochise County.

The state has also invested $100 million in law enforcement for border equipment and to support humanitarian efforts.

“Funds and resources are crucial,” stated Governor Katie Hobbs. “We’ve made a firm commitment in that area.”

The center is now operational, anticipating a seasonal uptick in border encounters as temperatures decrease.

“I’m willing to collaborate with anyone. These issues have persisted for years, and our community is urging action,” Hobbs added.

Additional programs and technology will be introduced at the center in the upcoming months. More details are available through local sources.
