Two men were taken into custody east of Flagstaff after a Coconino County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit discovered “suspected illegal substance” during a traffic stop. A third man escaped and was not found as of Monday afternoon.
The Sheriff’s Office said the K-9 unit stopped the vehicle around 11am Sunday on Interstate 10, one mile east of Cosnino near Flagstaff.
“The lawmakers worked with several partner agencies to make the area a Cambal for suspects who were unable to find him,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Two other men have been booked at Coconino County Adult Detention Facility on charges of transporting drugs for sale.
The drug tested positive for fentanyl, but according to John Paxton of the Sheriff’s Office, the Crime Institute must officially confirm.
The incident was still under investigation as of Sunday evening.
