Coconino County Public Works Have Begun Filling Potholes On Herold Ranch Road – KAFF News – Flagstaff

Coconino County Public Works officials began filling the flooded pothole at the Rio de Flag intersection on Herold Ranch Road. The crossing, which has been flooded for weeks, has severely restricted access for county and city residents east of the wash. The intersection of Herold Ranch Road has been monitored daily since meltwater from northern Arizona’s record winter began flooding Rio Defragment last month, officials said. The speed of the flood, combined with the depth of the current, has prevented the division from filling the intersection pot. “This is the first viable opportunity to try and add material to this hole,” said Chris Tressler, the county public works commissioner. The crew uses loaders to load 1 to 3.5 inch river rocks into the holes. Due to the limited visibility, this device is also needed to move rocks to fill the pot as completely as possible. The project is closely monitored to determine its effectiveness, including how well the rocks stay in place. The pothole filling project will continue until the floodwaters recede within the wash.
