FLAGSTAFF, Arizona — Coconino County experienced massive flooding from the remains of pipeline fires during the past monsoon season, affecting nine watersheds and many communities. During 45 major flood events, greatly increased flood flows overwhelmed both the forest’s natural waterways and existing communities’ existing flood mitigation facilities, causing widespread destruction.

The Coconino County Flood Management District (District) Board has submitted three separate grant applications to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the engineering and construction of flood mitigation measures in the Schultz/Pipeline flood area. approved.

The district is seeking funding of approximately $26.6 million to fund flood mitigation measures in the Schultz/Pipeline flood area of ​​the Donnie Park area.

The Flood Management District is also seeking $3.1 million from FEMA’s BRIC program. If successful, the funds will be used to design and build a drainage improvement work for the Highway 89 culvert.
