Coconino County has closed some roads in preparation for a strong winter storm that will hit the area Tuesday and late Wednesday. Coconino County Public Works will close an 11-mile section of Lake Mary Road between the north and south entrances to Mormon Lake at 1 p.m. During the closure, traffic will be rerouted around Mormon Lake and through Mormon Lake Village. The county closed Perkinsville Road at Whitehorse Road south of Williams. Additionally, Stoneman Lake Road will be closed between Interstate 17 and Lake Mary Road. The road will be closed due to strong winds and heavy snow forecast. Drifts limit visibility and make it more difficult for county snowplow operators to remove snow from roadways. These road closures, which must occur before a snowstorm, also free up limited snow removal and ice management resources for public works to keep other county roads open and passable.
