Arizona's primary election will be held on July 30th, instead of August 6th as originally scheduled.
The trigger for the change was Emergency legislation passed by the state legislature Last week, we moved the date forward to avoid delays.
However, the Coconino County Recorder's Office has already mailed a voter guide with the original date to all registered voters. A supplemental guide outlining the new dates and changes to early voting will be mailed in April.
“I wish the Legislature had enacted emergency legislation sooner to include accurate primary election dates in the voter guide,” Coconino County Recorder Patti Hansen said in a statement. “We wanted to get the guide to voters before the March 19 voter registration deadline for the presidential preference election.”
Voter registration for the presidential preference election closes on February 20th. Only registered Democrats or Republicans are eligible to vote in that race.
