Colorado City boy is Mohave County spelling champion | Kingman Daily Miner

KINGMAN – On Friday, January 27, 7th grade students from the City of Colorado were named 2023 Mojave County Spelling Bee champions.

The best young spell players from across the county faced off in the annual competition held at the Mojave County Supervisory Board Auditorium in downtown Kingman.

Ethan Knudson of Masada Charter School on the Arizona Strip won first place in the nearly two hour competition with the correct spelling of “hostile” in 13 rounds. Knudson will earn the right to represent Mojave County at the Ward He Warrior Battle of the Spellingbee, Arizona Championship in Phoenix in March.

Bullhead City’s Mojave Accelerated Learning Charter 7th grader Connor Hall was runner-up for misspelling “fluoride,” while 5th grader Micah Short, representing Camp Mojave Elementary School in Fort Mojave, came in third.

County School Superintendent Mike File thanked contest pronunciation officer Cliff Angle, judges Donna File, Diana Hawes, Jenni Borland, and the staff of the Mojave County Center for Educational Services for their support of the event.
