Colwell on Yuma County Elections and Recorder’s Role

KAWC's Summer Student Newsroom focuses on voting and elections.

To learn more about how elections are administered in Yuma County, Victoria McBee spoke with County Recorder Richard A. Colwell.

Colwell was appointed to the position in July 2022. He is running for election again to the position in the July 30 primary election.

In part one of the interview, Colwell talks about the job of the Yuma County Recorder and the structure of the Recorder’s Office. Unlike other counties in Arizona, Yuma County has combined its registrar’s office and elections office, which Colwell said allows them to efficiently respond to any issues or questions regarding elections.
