The Coneque County Bioeconomy Development Opportunity (BDO) Zone is the first in Alabama to be rated an “A” and stretches a 75-mile drive from the center point of Evergreen.
EcoStrat said Conec County's BDO Zone 'A' rating indicates high future viability of the raw material supply chain and infrastructure, and low default risk within the zone. The region features a history of established forestry operations, supported by a mature supply chain and robust rail and highway infrastructure that allows easy access to forestlands and ports.
Additionally, the presence of industrial land suitable for large-scale operations and a business-friendly community creates an ideal environment for bio-based factory expansion.
“Conequa's 'A' rating highlights the great potential our community has to become a major contributor to the timber industry,” said Jessica Dent, economic development director for the City of Evergreen and Conequa County.
“Historically, our community has been underrepresented in this space. We are actively seeking partnerships with bio-based companies to leverage our untapped wood biomass resources,” she added.
The Clean Energy Opportunity
EcoStrat's CEO and president said Conejo County is home to approximately one million tonnes of “bone-dried” woody biomass, making it ideally located to support bio-based companies looking for the perfect location for large-scale biomass projects. Jordan SolomonHe is the Chair of the BDO Zone Initiative.
“As the state's first 'A' rated utility, Conecuf will be a leader in creating new sustainable, low-carbon markets across the state,” Solomon said in the release.
The BDO Zone Initiative certifies a region's readiness for bio-based manufacturing, builds global connections with project developers, and encourages the influx of clean energy opportunities.
BDO Zone Assessments are internationally recognised, standards-based technical risk assessments of biomass feedstock, supply chain and infrastructure risks for the development potential of new biofuels, renewable chemicals, biogas and bio-products plants.
“This recognition demonstrates that Cone County is poised for biomanufacturing opportunities that will attract significant investment and create good jobs,” Brenda Tuck said. Rural Development Manager For the Alabama Department of Commerce.
“This will greatly increase Connex County's profile in the bioenergy sector and could lead to great developments in the future.”
of BDO Rating Report He noted that the Evergreen region sits on a large forested area that makes up 75 percent of the land area and is dominated by loblolly and longleaf pine.
The region is part of Alabama's forestry region, which overall contributes more than $28 billion to the state's economy, according to the report.
