Local CDL Scholarships Awarded in Alabama
Cougar Oil and Alabama Oil and Convenience Marketers (P&CMA) have announced the awarding of four new Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) scholarships to students in Selma and Dallas County. This continues their three-year effort to support local talent and stimulate economic growth. With these latest scholarships, the partnership is now providing a total of 14 scholarships for aspiring truck drivers in the area.
These scholarships do more than just offer financial assistance; they create stable, paid job opportunities in the transportation sector and help to enhance the workforce in Alabama’s Black Belt region.
“Truck driving presents an amazing career option for many in Alabama,” stated Rex Jones, CEO of Cougar Oil. “It’s an exciting avenue for young individuals right in the heart of the Black Belt. It fosters strong lives and gives them a chance to support their families.”
Numerous previous scholarship recipients have chosen to stay in Dallas County after finishing their CDL training, contributing to the community’s revitalization. The P&CMA Education Foundation has played a role in making these scholarships possible, highlighting their importance in this initiative.
“We are proud to provide various services to our customers,” said Bert Fletcher, president of P&CMA. “We congratulate this year’s scholarship recipients and wish them great success in their careers.”
This year’s scholarships were presented in honor of Lane Fraser, a well-respected track operator from Selma who sadly passed away in 2024.
“Lane was an extraordinary individual who cherished his family and community. We miss him dearly and are privileged to dedicate this year’s CDL scholarship in his memory,” Jones remarked.
As Cougar Oil and P&CMA maintain their focus on education and workforce development, their efforts exemplify the vital role that oil marketers and convenience store operators play in creating opportunities and fostering progress.
