County asks to keep irrigation end guns from spraying dirt roads – Yuma Pioneer

From the Yuma County Commissioner
This summer, we want to remind growers of the importance of preventing Pivot end guns from spraying county roads.
Excess water on roads is a safety issue. When driving on a dry road, the driver can lose control of the vehicle if the end gun sprays water onto the road and suddenly hits a wet area. Visibility is also reduced as the driver passes the spray end gun.

In addition to safety concerns, firing end guns on county roads damages infrastructure. Gravel roads and well-founded roads that are constantly soaked in the same place can cause potholes, ruts, soft spots and damage, especially in heavy traffic. It then needs to be dried and rebuilt, requiring more work than normal grading. Repairing some of the damaged roads can cost thousands of dollars. Water on the pavement can also seep into the pavement and degrade it, causing extensive damage, but also expensive repair costs.
We ask that you monitor your pivot when it is near the road, especially when it is windy. With your help, we can mitigate the devastating damage and keep our road network safe for all.
