Creepy Video Shows Creatures Overwhelm Popular Beach Destination

Eerie footage shared on social media on Sunday showed a terrifying swarm of dragonflies descending on a popular Rhode Island beach.

The dragonfly landed on Misquamicut State Beach in Rhode Island on Saturday. according to Vacationers and locals could be clearly heard screaming, laughing and reacting to the biblical plague-like event, WCVB-TV reported.

In the background picture In videos shared on social media, a man believed to be Richard Sontag can be heard saying, “Oh my god! Oh my god! What is this?”, before laughing to himself at the insanity. Stephanie Martin, a woman who appears to have been filming one of the videos, screams, “This is serious!”

This creepy bug appears to be the common Green Darner dragonfly, which breeds in Rhode Island from July through August. according to To the National Science Foundation. Apparently these flocks get so large during breeding season that they can be picked up by radar systems, which is a scary thought. WBUR.

Luckily, dragonflies love to eat mosquitoes and other flies, so they're great for pest and disease control, and they don't pose a physical danger to humans, only an emotional one.
