House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels has introduced a bill that would amend the state's abortion ban with exceptions in cases of rape and incest.

of alabama Human life protection lawThe law, which went into effect after Roe v. Wade was overturned in June 2022, is one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country. This is a near-total ban on abortion, with very limited exceptions generally related to the safety of the mother.

Daniels (D-Huntsville)'s bill would amend the original bill and add exceptions, including cases of rape and incest, making abortion legal in these cases.

According to the bill, incest includes not only aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces, but also step-brothers and step-parents “while the marriage relationship still exists.”
