A reporter for the Daily Caller News Foundation said Thursday that “Morning Joe” panelists failed to mention a key fact when they criticized former President Donald Trump's attendance at a ceremony honoring military members killed in the 2021 terrorist attacks.
President Trump's appearance on Monday at a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery to commemorate 13 service members killed in a murderous suicide bombing during the U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan on Aug. 26, 2021, drew criticism from liberal media as politicized. DCNF media reporter Nicole Silverio told WFEA host Jeff Chidester that conversations with “Morning Joe” co-host Jonathan Lemire and MSNBC contributor Mike Barnicle did not mention that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were not in attendance at the ceremony. “You know what 'Morning Joe' didn't mention,” Silverio said of Lemire and Barnacle's debate, “is that while President Trump was honoring fallen heroes at Arlington National Cemetery, while the sitting president was lying on the beach in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Kamala Harris never attended a single public event to commemorate these heroes or pay tribute to the families who have been grieving for three years.”
Family members of fallen service members told the Daily Caller that officials at Arlington National Cemetery tried to block Trump from attending the ceremony, but House Speaker Mike Johnson and Republican Reps. Michael McFaul of Texas and Darrell Issa of California intervened.
Silverio said many mainstream media outlets have focused on claims that Trump used Arlington National Cemetery and reports of altercations between cemetery officials and Trump campaign staff, noting that Trump “was invited by Gold Star families to attend and pay their respects.”
“I have not heard any reports of veterans being offended by President Trump's attendance and I don't see why anyone would be offended, because I believe a former president or any official should pay tribute to the 13 heroes who lost their lives for us overseas,” Silverio told Chidester.
