Deadline approaches to register to vote before the primary election

Secretary of State Wes Allen wants to remind Alabamians that they have one week left to register to vote before the 2024 primary.

“As Secretary of State, I want to encourage all eligible Alabamians to register to vote and exercise this constitutional right,” said Secretary Allen. “Voter participation in safe, secure, and transparent elections is critical to our state’s success.”

Eligible Alabamians must register to vote by Monday, February 19, 2024, to vote in the March 5, 2024 primary election. Electronic voter registration can be completed by visiting: https://www.sos.alabama.gov/alabama-votes/voter/register-to-vote.

The deadline to submit physical voter registration forms to the county board of registration is Friday, February 16, 2024. The postmark expiration date for voter registration forms is Saturday, February 17, 2024.

To be eligible to vote in Alabama, you must be a U.S. citizen, reside in Alabama, and turn 18 on or before Election Day. You cannot be barred from voting or found to be “mentally infirm” by a court because of a disqualifying felony conviction.

On Election Day, voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters will be required to present a valid photo ID when voting at a polling place or by absentee ballot.
