Democratic presidential candidate Dean Phillips told CNN's Poppy Harlow and Casey Hunt on Tuesday that he honestly told viewers that the DNC is “suppressing voters” to help President Joe Biden. I asked him a point-blank question.
Harlow referred to a previous interview Phillips gave with CNN in which he said he would either win the race or pave the way for someone else to win. Phillips said his position remained the same and that Harlow specifically asked “to whom” he would open the door.
“I've been trying to do this ever since I called on the president to pass the torch, and I want you all to know. He didn't do it. Because we know we have to be well known in this game, I literally spent months calling other candidates who were better known than me. It helps the cause,” Phillips said.
“So I'm curious about who's who,” Harlow interjected.
“The poppy invitation is still Gretchen Whitmer, J.B. Pritzker, Gavin Newsom, Vice President Harris. I'm really trying to impress upon the Democratic Party that we should be competitive and I want people to also be told the truth that my party is suppressing voters here. I know, I hope?
“You're talking about the DNC letter,” Hunt interjected. (Related: 'Biden will be vilified': Democratic Biden challenger reveals major revelations from Trump rally)
“The DNC sent a letter to the Democratic Party here in the state, New Hampshire, saying this is pointless even though they are doing a massive write-in campaign. In fact, it was just last week that the Secretary of State here in the Democratic Party I ended up submitting a letter to the commission asking for a halt and a halt to the illegal oppression of voters. There is a lot going on here that no one is aware of and I am trying to call attention to the truth. We hope other candidates will join us. That request is still wide open. The water is warm.”
Mr. Hunt quickly changed the subject and asked Mr. Phillips if he thought Vice President Kamala Harris was qualified, and Mr. Phillips argued that Ms. Harris should go out there and convince voters that she is qualified. .
D.N.C. said in a letter New Hampshire's Democratic primary was “meaningless,” prompting the state's attorney general to tell the DNC that “falsely telling New Hampshire voters that the New Hampshire election was 'meaningless' is New Hampshire voter suppression.” “This is a violation of the law,” the letter said.
The cease-and-desist letter from the attorney general directs the DNC to stop repeating “false, misleading, and deceptive statements.”
Biden will not participate in the New Hampshire primary due to the DNC's new primary schedule, which prioritizes South Carolina. There is currently a massive write-in campaign for president in the Granite State, but Phillips prompt Voters should not write in Biden's name.
