Dem Gov Says He Privately Told Biden ‘The Truth’ While Publicly Defending His Reelection Bid

Maryland Democratic Gov. Wes Moore told ABC News on Sunday that while he had publicly defended President Joe Biden's reelection, he had privately shared the “truth” about the campaign's decline.

During an interview on ABC's “This Week,” host Martha Raddatz asked the governor if he had become more concerned about President Biden “as the weeks have gone by” following his “disastrous debate performance,” noting that Governor Moore had said Biden should not withdraw from the race. Despite the concerns following President Biden's debate performance, Governor Moore has publicly strengthened his support for the president's reelection effort, saying in early July that he would continue to support the Biden-Harris ticket. according to To Fox Baltimore.

“Well, I've spoken privately with the president. I strongly believe that if you care about somebody, you should tell them the truth. And I've had private conversations where I told the president the truth,” Moore said.

“I also know that the president deserves better than people running around and publicly demanding that the president of the United States step down, especially when you look at the track record of the Biden-Harris Administration,” Moore continued. “We had great partners in the Biden-Harris Administration to get us the results we needed in Maryland, so I knew that when he said he was going to continue to move forward, I was going to stand with him.”

Raddatz continued to press Moore, asking him to elaborate on what “truths” he told Biden during their conversation. (RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: New Trump rally video slams Kamala for promoting Minnesota's dangerous bail fund)

“I'm also, as you know, a person of integrity, and I believe that having private conversations allows me to tell people the truth and tell them what I've heard without having to go back and embarrass them in public,” Moore said.

Following Biden's poor performance in a debate with former President Donald Trump in late June, Democrats and commentators were quick to voice concerns about Biden's mental health and low approval ratings. But the president's supporters like Moore publicly defended Biden's reelection while joining a group of governors at the White House, saying, “The president has always had our backs, and we're going to have his back.” according to To the Washington Post.

In an interview with CBS News after the debate, moderator Margaret Brennan sharply criticized Moore for publicly defending the president when the governor tried to dismiss his debate performance as a “bad night.”

Moore has voiced his support for Vice President Kamala Harris since Biden withdrew from the race on July 21 and announced he would instead endorse Harris as his candidate. release He expressed his “full support” and “complete endorsement” of Harris.

“Kamala Harris will lead us forward and toward a brighter future for all. She is the fighter we need now to realize our country's full potential,” Moore wrote.
