Fox News host John Roberts reminded former Democratic National Committee spokesman Jose Aristimno on Wednesday that former President Donald Trump enjoys support from Hispanic voters.
The increase in support for Trump among Hispanic voters appears to be primarily due to the economy and immigration. According to the New York Times, Vice President Kamala Harris has the support of 56% of likely Hispanic voters, compared to 37% who support President Trump in a head-to-head matchup. public opinion poll Aristimno attributed Trump’s increased support to “disinformation” before accusing former President Trump of racism. “I’ll say this: This doesn’t take away from the fact that it wasn’t just the comedian saying shit. Because he actually said shit, and that’s what President Biden was talking about, and that’s what President Trump was talking about. “This is the kind of hatred and division that his team has been spewing, not just during this rally, but for the past eight years,” Aristimno argued. “We have to remember that in 2016, he came down the escalator and announced his campaign and said that Latinos are criminals. This is what—”
clock:
“Latinx people are supporting him this time,” Roberts told Aristimuno.
Since replacing Biden as the top Democratic candidate, Harris has regained some support from Hispanic voters in polls, but remains behind Biden’s numbers in the 2020 election.
“Unfortunately, as a Venezuelan-American, a Latino, let me tell you, there is disinformation, a lot of disinformation out there,” Aristimno said. “This president has done more for Latinos than any president in modern history. That’s a fact. Not just about the economy and 15 million jobs, but about the border, which Republicans have rejected from day one. Because Joe Biden did what he did, there are fewer intersections.”
“If you look at the record of the Trump administration, Latinos, like other minority voters, including Black Americans, did pretty well economically,” Roberts said. “They did well. The earning power of African American men increased by 12.7%. I don’t know what Jose is talking about about misinformation. I said I was collecting information, but that’s not disinformation.”
