Dem Rep Passes Away Just Months After Winning Election To Congress

Former Houston mayor and Texas Democrat Sylvester Turner passed away Tuesday night several months after winning the election to Congress. multiple Report.

Turner was 70 years old and was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2022. He attended President Donald Trump’s joint speech to Congress Tuesday evening.

He took over longtime Texas Democrat Sheila Jackson Lee, who took over in July 2024 to represent the 18th Congressional District of Texas. Turner was mayor of Houston, Texas from 2016 to 2024, and served in the Texas House of Representatives for nearly 30 years.
