Dem Rep Says Biden Deserves Zero Blame For Afghanistan Withdrawal

Democratic California Rep. Barbara Lee said on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that President Joe Biden deserves no blame for the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan.

A State Department report released on Friday concluded that both the Biden and Trump administrations contributed to the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. Investigators said the State Department operation was “hindered by the fact that it was unclear who was in control of the State Department.” The report found that the Biden administration failed to mobilize and deploy the necessary personnel to conduct a smooth evacuation, citing a lack of experienced senior leadership and coordination capabilities.

“Notably, you were the only U.S. Congressman to vote against recognizing the war in Afghanistan in 2001. Of course, a State Department report on the disorganized Afghanistan withdrawal effort put the Biden administration at its worst. It turns out that we weren’t prepared for the 2019-2020 2019-2019 season.” We considered case scenarios, and many of them eventually materialized. I know you supported the goal of leaving Afghanistan. Do you think President Biden has some responsibility for that withdrawal getting out of control?” asked host Jake Tupper.

“I don’t think the administration deserves to be blamed for this. We must remember that Donald Trump made this deal with the Taliban. Second, the Trump administration literally I believe the State Department and the people involved did the best they could, which I believe should have happened before the end of the Afghanistan war. But that being said, it wasn’t as smooth as we had hoped,” Lee said. (Related: Former CIA officer slams Biden for denying ‘facts on the ground’ about regime’s failure to pull out of Afghanistan)

“And in fact, we still have to fund the State Department and diplomats in the same way that we fund the Pentagon. If we stayed in Afghanistan, another 20 I think the year would have been there. There was no military solution. That’s why I voted in 2001 against the too broad endorsement of the 60 word endorsement that set the stage for eternal war It is.”

Asked if he admitted there were “mistakes during and before Brexit,” Biden denied responsibility.

“No, no,” said Biden. “All the evidence is coming back. Remember what I said about Afghanistan? I said get help from. What’s going on? What’s wrong? Read the press. I was right. Thank you.”
