Senators from both parties expressed frustration Thursday over the security failings that led to the assassination attempt on former President Trump.
Senator Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut and chairman of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, said Americans will be “stunned” by the findings of a soon-to-be-released report on security failings, the New York Post reported. Reported.
“I believe the American people will be shocked, astonished and appalled by what we will report about the Secret Service's failures during the assassination attempt on a former president,” Blumenthal said.

According to the New York Post, members of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee participated in a closed-door briefing on the July shooting along with Interim Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe.
“But I think they should also be appalled and appalled that Homeland Security has not been more open and honest about providing information,” Blumenthal said after the meeting. (Related article: Police officers encounter gunman before shooting President Trump: Report)
Republican Senator Ron Johnson also expressed concern, tweeting that the bipartisan investigation “will continue to demand witnesses and documents from the Secret Service and FBI.”

Johnson's office confirmed to The Daily Caller that the report is expected to be released “in the coming weeks.” The Caller also reached out to Blumenthal's office but had not heard back as of press time.
Democratic and Republican senators on the Homeland Security Committee stressed that the investigation and accompanying report would be entirely bipartisan, the Post reported.

“They didn't know what was going on,” he told the BBC. “We were like, 'Hey, we're on the roof, we can see him from here! We can see him.'”

The shooting left former President Trump wounded, two attendees injured and former Fire Chief Corey Comperatore killed.
