Democratic strategist Chuck Rocha said on CNN on Tuesday that former President Joe Biden’s preemptive pardons for families could seriously hurt Democrats’ chances in key Congressional races.

“There are 14 districts that Mr. Trump won and Democrats have seats in that are my top targets to make sure they get there. And they’re going to make an ad about pardoning the J6 defenders who hit the cops. Now, what do you think they’re doing? They’re just spinning around. Former Trump communications director Mike Dubke agreed, saying Biden’s pardon of Hunter weakened Democrats’ stance on law and order.
“At the end of the day, you either believe in the rule of law or you don’t. And as you point out, when he pardoned his own son, Hunter Biden, after saying he wouldn’t pardon him, politicized the Justice Department more than anyone else, and he really did that with the preemptive pardons,” Dubke said. “And I was hoping you would play that clip because it was going around on social media that you asked him that question.”
Rocha said there is a shift in power relations as Republicans gain control of every branch of government, likening it to a “dog who caught a car.”

Just before Trump took office on Monday, Biden pardoned five family members, including two brothers. He also pardoned former White House senior medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci, General Mark Milley and members of the Jan. 6 task force in his final hours as president.
Biden also commuted the sentences of 2,500 people convicted of violent crimes, two of which resulted in the death of a police officer. At a press conference Monday night after signing the executive order, President Trump criticized Biden’s recent pardons to family members, saying they implied guilt, saying that if Biden were to pardon family members while he was still in office. He said such actions would have jeopardized his re-election if he had given him.
Meanwhile, President Trump granted full pardons to approximately 1,500 people involved in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot.
