Awarded a MADD Hero Award

Yavapai County Attorney Dennis McGrane announced that Deputy County Attorney Anthony Garcia was the recipient of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Statewide Hero Award on June 28, 2024. The award was presented to Garcia at MADD’s 35th Annual Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.

Yavapai County Attorney Dennis McGrane said, “Tony came to my office approximately nine months ago after a long career as a federal law enforcement officer. Tony's legal skills and exemplary work ethic have impressed everyone he comes into contact with: judges, victims, law enforcement officers and even defense attorneys. I am pleased that Tony's excellence in prosecuting drunk drivers among all prosecutors in the state of Arizona has been recognized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving. If you think you can 'take the risk' of drinking and driving, think again. Your risky choice puts not only yourself at risk, but your family and everyone you share the road with. Call a cab or arrange a ride. If you drink and drive in Yavapai County, you will be severely prosecuted and you will face prison time.”

The MADD Hero Awards were established to honor police officers, emergency responders and court officials who devotedly support MADD's mission of eliminating drunk driving, eliminating drugged driving, assisting victims of these violent crimes and preventing underage drinking. Garcia has demonstrated his commitment to upholding this shared mission when prosecuting individuals accused of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Garcia has stated that he often seeks the maximum sentence allowed by law and does so because the individual poses a danger to themselves and the community at large.
