Despite high WA state gas prices, many stations in Pierce County have deals. Here’s a map

May 17 — Average gasoline prices in the US continued to fall last month. The national average rose from about $3.66 in mid-April to $3.53 a gallon of regular-grade fuel, according to AAA. At this time last year, the national average gas price was $4.52 per gallon.

But Washington prices are moving in the opposite direction. Statewide median costs jumped from $4.44 a gallon in mid-April to an average of $4.59 today. California, Arizona, and Hawaii are the only states with higher gas prices than Washington.

Residents of western Washington, including Tacoma and the southern Puget Sound region, bear much of the burden of the state’s high fuel costs. Average prices in Pierce County rose 11 cents last month alone, from $4.51 in mid-April to $4.62 as of May 17.

As gas prices continue to rise in Washington, consumers need to know where to find the cheapest fuel locally. The gas mileage website GasBuddy provides information on places that sell cheap gasoline.
