“Do You Find This Humorous?”: CNN Host Appears Upset by Trump Meme During Conversation with Former ICE Director

Discussion on Immigration and Memes

On Monday, CNN anchor Brianna Keilar engaged in a back-and-forth with Jonathan Fahey, a former representative from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE). The conversation centered around a suggested crackdown on federal immigration in Chicago and how it relates to President Trump.

This past Saturday, Trump shared a meme on Truth Social that references the movie “Apocalypse Now,” including a line that humorously states, “I love the smell of morning deportation.” Fahey, while appearing on “CNN News Central,” suggested that Democrats shouldn’t get overly focused on such memes. “I saw ‘Apocalypse Now.’ They won’t drop napalm in Chicago,” he commented, encouraging a more measured response to the situation.

Keilar questioned Fahey about whether he finds this situation amusing. He replied that the memes are not especially funny and emphasized that the Trump administration claims to have a handle on crime in the area. Fahey noted that the problem in Chicago is indeed serious and fatal, criticizing local Democratic leaders for not adequately addressing crime and immigration issues due to political pressures.

When discussing the appropriateness of humor in this context, Fahey sought clarification but maintained that the meme sends a serious message regarding crime management. “If they spent just a fraction of their efforts on making the city safer, we’d all benefit,” he stated, referring to the efforts required to improve safety in Chicago.

Illinois Democrats have reacted strongly against the memes as well. Additionally, Trump had a tense exchange with NBC and ABC News correspondents, where he rebutted claims of escalating tensions in Chicago. He insisted that the intention is to clean up the city, rather than engage in any sort of conflict. “That’s not war. That’s common sense,” Trump asserted.
