Do You Want to Discuss True Censorship? Former GOP Representative Points Out That Biden’s Administration Targeted Free Speech

Former Republican Representative from Michigan, Peter Meijer, pointed out to ex-Biden aide Danco that the current administration has previously targeted free speech through social media censorship.

On the same day, Google, which owns YouTube, revealed that it will permit video creators who supposedly breached political speech rules to return to its platform. While talking about the reinstatement of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel on CNN’s “Arena,” Co claimed that Republicans were attempting to curb Kimmel’s expression.

“Let’s consider this,” he asked. “If Joe Biden beats a well-known right-wing figure on TV, would you really accept what they had to say? Can you answer that?”

Major challenged, “If you’re astonished by what the Biden administration is doing, that’s quite the hypothetical. Will you establish a social media platform for conservatives?” He pointed out, “No, that’s what your administration did. Google has released all the parts.”

During Biden’s term, various creators began criticizing Covid-19 vaccines and related mandates. In response, YouTube quickly enacted policies limiting discussions around Covid-19 treatments.

In a letter to the House Judiciary Committee, Google mentioned that some content was removed due to violations related to election integrity and Covid-19. The company stated that Biden’s officials pressured them, but claimed that content was taken down only if it was marked as “misinformation” by the administration.

The two individuals continued their conversation about free speech, with Co pressing Meijer to assert that the Trump administration had a say in Kimmel’s suspension.

“Your administration has heavily influenced social media,” Meijer replied. “Do you really want to talk about silencing? There are public platforms that occasionally refuse to air content. Kimmel could easily return to MSNBC or ABC.”

Meijer further emphasized, “Charlie Kirk is quiet now. There’s a lot of conservative silence across social media, the government has made threats to those platforms: Facebook, Google, Twitter. YouTube confirmed today that they acted under the Biden administration’s direction.”

On Wednesday, ABC, owned by Disney, announced Kimmel’s indefinite suspension after a September 15th monologue. He remarked that the “Maga gang” reached a “new low,” asserting that Republicans were framing Kirk’s alleged assassin in a misleading light.

Democrats reacted quickly, with FCC Chairman Brendan Kerr labeling Kimmel’s comments “some of the sickest behaviors” and suggested that there might be network repercussions.

This backlash included voices like California Representative Eric Swalwell and former President Barack Obama, who argued that the “cancel culture” attributed to Republicans and Trump is reaching “new and dangerous levels.”

After Kimmel’s September 15th remarks, he reportedly doubled down on his comments. Vice President JD Vance condemned what he called attempts by some in MagaLand to exploit Kirk’s murder.

The Wall Street Journal indicated that Kimmel intended to clarify his statements, contending that they were misrepresented by certain Republicans.

On Monday, ABC announced it would lift Kimmel’s suspension. However, major TV station owners like Nexstar Media and Sinclair are reportedly still holding back on airing late-night shows.
