Donald Trump Jr. posted a message in support of a gambling legalization bill awaiting a final vote in the Alabama Senate.
On Tuesday, after a conference committee advanced a two-bill plan and the Alabama House voted in favor, the Senate fell one vote short of passing the constitutional amendment, which requires a three-fifths majority. The bill will be postponed and could be taken up again in the final days of the 2024 legislative session.
Ahead of a visit to Alabama next week, Don Jr. said of the current issues, “It just doesn't make sense to me!”
“Excited to be in Alabama next week to raise funds for my dad and when I ask anyone from Alabama what's going on in their state this is all they always talk about,” Trump posted.
“45 states have already legalized lotteries, so why not have a referendum on a clean bill to fund education? Shouldn't Alabama keep billions of dollars in Alabama rather than sending them to other states?”
I'm looking forward to going to Alabama next week for a fundraiser for my dad, and when I ask anyone from Alabama what's going on in their state, this is all they tell me: Why is the Senate refusing to vote on a clean bill to legalize the lottery and fund education when 45% of them didn't vote… https://t.co/g6rWOvAWJC

“I had to Make a decision “I'm concerned about this because the rewrite has put my constituents in a very difficult position,” said Rep. Albritton (R-Atmore). Said Wednesday's Alabama Daily News. “We put ourselves in the state’s shoes so the state couldn’t offer anything to PCI. “It's compact,” he said.
The Alabama House of Representatives quickly agreed to the conference committee's report Tuesday afternoon.
“The bill passed by the House today will crack down on illegal gambling with strong, clear and enforceable legislation. This bill will ensure that all lottery revenues, projected to exceed $300 million annually, are used exclusively for education,” said House Speaker Nathaniel Leadbetter (R-Rainsville).
“Most importantly, Alabamians will be able to vote on this issue for the first time in 25 years.”
