“What worries me about the polls is that they tend to show low support for Trump. I think a lot of people are voting secretly because they're embarrassed to say they're voting for Trump,” Deutsch said. “And there are some numbers that are worrying. The numbers are moving in the right direction, but compared to what Biden has done with people of color, his approval rating is still low. We're moving in the right direction, but there's still room for improvement.”
Deutsch and Democratic strategist James Carville warned in June that men, particularly “Hispanic men,” were leaving the Democratic Party.
Additionally, a CNN poll from late August found Trump leading Harris by 32 points among white voters without college degrees in Pennsylvania and by 44 points in Georgia. vote In six battleground states. CNN political director David Chalian on Wednesday called those numbers “a sign of crisis for Harris.”
NBC News national political reporter Steve Kornacki said Tuesday that despite Harris's slight lead over Trump, she is likely to win the Electoral College vote because she outperformed polling projections in both 2016 and 2020.
“Look at the 2020 and 2016 elections here, polls at this point after Labor Day and the fall rush is starting,” Kornacki told host Ana Cabrera. “In 2016, Hillary Clinton had an average lead of five points. Of course, Donald Trump won in 2016. And Joe Biden had an even bigger lead on average as of Labor Day in 2020. Donald Trump didn't win that election, but he certainly came close in the Electoral College, Ana. So Trump has certainly come from behind before.”
