Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doucy asked President Donald Trump on Friday whether he was worried about becoming a Democrat political shelter if Canada becomes America’s 51st state.
Trump has raised the idea of annexing Canada as the 51st US state, saying that neighboring countries “teared” the US with tariffs on wood, dairy and other essential imports. The president told Doucy that Canada may not be as liberal as it generally believes, and expressed optimism that it will be “great” state.
“We’re going to say this in all the stories of Canada becoming the 51st state. They’re going to be very blue. They’re very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very blue,” Doucy said.
“Yeah, that may be true, but you know, you have that artificial line that looks like it was drawn by a ruler. I don’t mean a ruler like a king, I mean a ruler like a ruler,” Trump said. “This way, and it’s an artificial line drawn in the sand and ice. You add it to this country, what a beautiful land, the most beautiful land in the world.
“Is it liberal now? Maybe, but conservative. [Pierre Poilievre]until I get involved, I don’t care who wins there, frankly, I will probably do better with liberals than conservatives to tell you the truth, but just a moment ago, before I completely change the election I get involved and I don’t care about, it’s actually a profit. But the conservatives were leading the way against who I call governor. [Justin] Trudeau. The conservatives were leading 35 points, so I don’t know about that,” the president continued.
