The Gila County Sheriff’s Office said a helicopter was needed to rescue a driver who bypassed Tonto Creek barricades.
Gila County, Arizona — A driver who allegedly bypassed a barricade and got into a flooded wash on Monday afternoon had to be rescued by helicopter, officials said.

The driver successfully got out of the dangerous situation but was later cited by agents for allegedly driving around a barricade set up around Tonto Creek, the GCSO said.
“Sheriff J. Adam Shepard would like to remind everyone not to run across flooded washrooms or run around barricades. Your life and the lives of your passengers are not worth the risk.” said the agency.
In 2019, three young children lost their lives after a family chose to drive through the flooded river of Tonto Creek. The parents of her two children who died pleaded guilty to child abuse and were placed on probation.
