ELIZABETH AMES: Will ‘Senility-Gate’ Force Biden To Resign?

Not surprisingly, President Joe Biden's Friday night interview with George Stephanopoulos did little more than calm the drumbeat of withdrawing from the 2024 election.

The president sounded a little better than he had during those disastrous debates, but he was still visibly frail and insisted he could withstand the rigors of a campaign and serve another four years. The defining moment came when he steadfastly refused to calm his concerns by undergoing a neurological test. “I take cognitive tests every day.” (Related article: Brooke Rollins: Joe Biden simply doesn't exist)

To some observers, this is Biden's “I'm not a cheater.” It's a moment reminiscent of President Richard Nixon's infamous denial of any involvement in the break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters. Indeed, we are now beginning to draw comparisons between Biden's ordeal and the political turmoil that led to Nixon's resignation.

“Watergate,” as the scandal was called, and Biden's “Agegate” capped a difficult presidency marked by runaway inflation, global conflict and social unrest.

And both involved cover-ups, but in Biden's case the cover-up wasn't the work of a few political operatives but an Orwellian “conspiracy of silence” involving the White House, the Democratic Party and an all-too-cooperative liberal media. There's one surprising number listed. There are at least 50 prominent politicians and activists who have blatantly lied about Biden's declining approval ratings. And the list doesn't even include smug pundits like MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, who derisively described the teetering president as ” “The best Biden ever”

This shocking betrayal of public trust was made clear by Biden's debate fiasco, according to the Daily Mail. The results of a “soft coup” Such an insurrection would explain why the White House uncharacteristically subjected its weaker candidate to a 90-minute, unscripted showdown with former President Donald Trump, intended to oust him from power by foiling a plot to oust him.

There needed to be a “big expose” of his undeniable weaknesses, with an image powerful enough to generate bipartisan agreement that for the good of the country he should resign.

The Daily Mail's sources say the coup is due to concerns over Biden's deteriorating condition, but it's more likely due to the president's dismal polling, which has shown Trump's lead growing ever wider despite the Democrats' legal battles and Trump's conviction in New York.

After all, Biden's mental frailty, while less pronounced, wasn't a problem for Democrats during the 2020 presidential campaign. The real problem in 2024 is not Biden's disability but his vulnerability with voters.

That's why the current rebellion is expected to only intensify. Democrats understand that “Old Agegate” and its cover-up could be as damaging to the party as Watergate did to the Republican Party in the 1970s. “It's a big deal,” says one Democratic strategist. “The dam is about to burst”

The domino effect continues as more and more people publicly call for Biden to withdraw, raising doubts about whether he can fulfill the responsibilities of the presidency. words As one USA Today columnist wrote, “If Democrats believe Biden is an unfit candidate, how can he function as the nation's chief executive for another six months?”

If the president continues to investigate, don't be surprised if the liberal media turns their attention from “Old Age Gate” to serious “10% for the Big Guy” stories that will finally reveal where the money trail really leads and may force President Biden to resign before the election.

This scenario was once dismissed because of the “Kamala factor” — the vice president's unpopularity and unfitness for the Oval Office — but that appears to be rapidly changing: White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declared Harris “the future of the party” last week. (Related: Morgan Murphy: Biden may spawn a new generation of Republicans)

Ms Harris's presidency would be an initial shock, but Biden supporters would be able to hang on to her and sell her to voters in the coming months.

Though Harris has often put in an embarrassing performance as vice president, Republicans would be wrong to underestimate her: The 2020 election showed her to be an astute debater and firebrand.

As a woman of color, she “checks the boxes” for the identity-obsessed Democratic base, and there's no way she'll be chosen over any other candidate at the upcoming Democratic convention.

Recent polls have her second only to Michelle Obama as the Democrat most likely to beat Trump. Like Joe Biden in 2020, she may be far more electable than people think. And for Democrats, that's what matters.
