Elon Musk Says SpaceX Could Have Saved Astronauts Months Ago, But Biden Rejected His Offer For ‘Political Reasons’

Elon Musk told Fox News Tuesday on Fox News that SpaceX offered to save the astronauts months earlier than planned, but his offer was turned down by the Biden administration for “political reasons.”

After nine months at the International Space Station, NASA astronauts Sniwilliams and Butchwillmore were safe and secure as they planned a week-long mission on Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft in June. It was returned To Earth with the help of SpaceX in the mask. When he appeared in “Honey,” Musk was asked if he had previously offered to bring the astronaut home. He said he offered but was rejected.

“We definitely offered to return the astronauts early, and there’s no doubt about that,” Musk said. “The astronauts were supposed to be there for only eight days and they were there for almost ten months, so obviously that doesn’t make sense. Space could bring the astronauts back after a few months at best. And we made an offer to the Biden administration, which was rejected for political reasons.

NASA astronauts Williams and Wilmore were stranded on the International Space Station on June 5, 2024, on a Boeing Starliner spacecraft. According to LivesCience, five helium leaks and five obstacles in the reaction control system extended their stay in space beyond the planned period. Before its launch, the astronaut mission was postponed when valve abnormalities were detected in the liquid oxygen tank of the Starliner capsule, disrupting the planned takeoff. The United Launch Alliance cited safety concerns for both flight crews and ground crews in its decision to halt flights to the International Space Station and scrub the launch after observing vibrating behavior with pressure-regulating valves during pre-launch operation.
