Eric Trump Tells Megyn Kelly People Should ‘Entertain’ That Second Assassination Attempt Was An ‘Inside Job’

Eric Trump told SiriusXM's Megyn Kelly on Monday that people need to “consider” the possibility that a second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump was an “insider job.”

Federal and local authorities confirmed Sunday the arrest of Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, for allegedly attempting to assassinate the former president at the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida. On “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Eric Trump urged viewers to “enjoy every bit of it” after Kelly pressed him about the possibility that the attack was an inside job since Trump was not officially scheduled to be at the golf course.

“Everybody better buy into that. Everybody better buy into everything, right? I never thought I'd say that again. I'm not a tinfoil hat kind of guy. I'm actually a very sane guy. I think there are a lot of conspiracy theories out there that are completely insane. And after it's happened twice in five weeks, you better believe it. You better buy into all of those scenarios, because something could have gone horribly wrong and it could have turned out completely differently,” Eric Trump said.

“A guy literally walked across to the other side with a rifle. Meghan, you see that? There's a wide, wide path. There's a beautiful, perfectly manicured lawn, maybe 20 yards, and a row of beautiful palm trees, right? Royal palm trees. And then another 20 yards of lawn and a big hedge,” Eric Trump said. “And inside the hedge, you see a chain link fence? On the other side of that. A guy literally walked across all of that with a long gun, and nobody saw this? Nobody was on the street? It's not like a guy was sneaking through the woods, trying to get into a hidden place in total camouflage.”

The former president's son went on to question how Routh could have walked down a “huge highway” with an AK-47 and not been spotted. (RELATED: FBI says it received tip about Trump shooter Ryan Wesley Routh's firearm possession in 2019)

“I mean, he literally ran across a giant highway in broad daylight with a long gun. It's not something you can just throw in a backpack, you know? Slither.[ing] “He ran into some bushes next to the golf course where my dad happened to be playing at the time. Yeah, you have to consider that possibility. That's really crazy because this guy looks totally nuts. Clearly crazy. You can see it in the pictures,” Eric Trump continued.

“But what if that wasn't the case? What if the guy was well camouflaged? What if the agent happened not to be there at the right time? What if the guy kills an agent and then uses a scoped rifle to kill somebody not far away?” Eric Trump wondered. “We'd better start really sealing off this perimeter, because something is terribly wrong. As I've said three times in this interview, they're going to get him. When I said that six months ago, I believed in my heart that they would stop at nothing, but now the world knows they're going to get him.”

While Trump was golfing on Sunday, Secret Service agents spotted “the barrel of a rifle protruding from a fence” and “immediately engaged” the suspect. Routh fled the scene after firing the shot, but was later arrested by local authorities in Martin County, Florida.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw said the 58-year-old man left behind “an AK-47-style rifle with a scope attached.” “Two backpacks hanging on the fence contained ceramic tiles and a GoPro that he intended to use to take photos.” The FBI is leading the investigation, and Florida's Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, has also announced a state investigation.
