State and federal firefighters responded to a new wildfire in southern Arizona near San Rafael State Natural Area State Park in Santa Cruz County.
The ranch fire, located about 19 miles southeast of Patagonia, burned to 889 acres, spreading south and southeast. I’ll post it on x From the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management.
Starting from the state land, the fire spread across the Coronado National Forest, burning in heavy grass and brushes. As of 1:30pm on June 4th, there was no containment of the ranch fire.
About five to ten properties along the 134 roads north of the fire have moved to the “setting” stage of the state’s “ready” emergency response scale. Residents should identify the area’s closest shelters or safe locations, prepare emergency kits and be prepared to evacuate the area if the situation escalates, officials said.
Large air tankers work with hand crews and engine teams on the ground to advance towards containment. More resources are being ordered to deal with the flames.
The cause of the ranch fire has not been determined.
