Ex-GOP Advisor Warns Republicans Down-Ballot Could Shrink ‘Dramatically’ If Harris Wins Key Swing States

Former Republican consultant Matt Gorman warned on NBC News on Wednesday that if Vice President Kamala Harris wins in key battleground states, the number of Republican wins in lower districts could be “dramatically” reduced.

Gorman, speaking on a panel with NBC host Kristen Welker about Harris' lead over Trump, said he saw maps showing her leading Trump in five of the seven battleground states and advised Republicans to focus on “hunting” Harris and her campaign because poor results in battleground states could hurt lesser candidates. “What's surprising is that all of these battleground states are leaning Democrat, clearly within the margin of error. So these are close states, but the momentum has shifted dramatically,” Welker said.

“It really is. So as a Republican, I want to warn you that it's not just an interview. She's going to do an interview eventually, and the media will suddenly [will be] “Like, 'Okay, thank you, that's fine.' That takes away the talking point. The key is to back her up a little bit and the campaign up a little bit. At least historically, she has proven not to be very adept in these scenarios where she can control all the variables,” Gorman said. “And it also means that on the lower ballot, the Senate district map shrinks dramatically, the House district map shrinks dramatically. The last block, the New York ballot measure, talks about abortion. It's not really about abortion access. New York is fine on that front. It's about trying to reduce the House by about five seats through voter turnout.”

According to CNBC, several Republicans, including businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway and former White House aide Peter Navarro, have publicly advised the former president to focus on policy rather than personally attacking Harris.

Since she became a leading presidential candidate after President Joe Biden left office on July 21, Harris' campaign has been gaining notable momentum within the Democratic Party, even though she has not spoken publicly to the media to clarify her campaign line, according to a recent Pew Research Center poll. show If the election were held today, Harris would lead Trump with 46% of likely voters, compared with 45% for Trump and 7% for independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
