As U.S. troops leave Afghanistan three years later, former Navy SEAL and CIA contractor Shawn Ryan told the Daily Caller News Foundation that he doesn't think the Biden-Harris administration has learned anything from the operation.
The US withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021 is widely considered to have been a disastrous operation that resulted in the deaths of 13 service members. RyanRyan Biden, a veteran of multiple combat operations and current host of the Shawn Ryan Show, told DCNF that the Biden administration continues to take the wrong approach to Afghanistan and warned that the country could once again become a terror epicenter and pose a threat to the West in the future. “Personally, I don't think any lessons have been learned. Obviously, they tried to cover this up and hide it from the media, which did a really good job, especially when it first happened,” Ryan, who recently interviewed former President Donald Trump, told DCNF. “Certainly, Trump negotiated. [the withdrawal] “We made an agreement with the Taliban in 2020. But that agreement had very strict guidelines, and none of those guidelines were followed.”
“If Trump had done so, I'm sure he would have followed the calculated plan that he and his cabinet came up with. But unfortunately, the Biden administration just ordered a withdrawal. There was nothing strategic about how they did it,” Ryan said.

The withdrawal process was due in mid-2021, as agreed to by the Trump administration in 2020, but the actual operation was chaotic and abrupt as a result of poor planning and a lack of leadership, according to the State Department and the House Foreign Affairs Committee. action ReportsNo one in the Biden administration has been fired or resigned over the withdrawal.
More than $7 billion in military equipment was left behind in Afghanistan, all of which was easily accessible to the Taliban when they took control of the country and imposed dictatorial rule on the Afghan people shortly after the withdrawal. Ryan noted that tens of millions of dollars in U.S. aid are sent to Afghanistan every week, despite the high risk of it being diverted or seized by the Taliban. Afghanistan has received nearly $3 billion in U.S. taxpayer-funded aid since the withdrawal in 2021. (Related article: “Worth billions”: Defense companies enter gold rush with record arms orders)
On August 14, the Taliban commemorated the third anniversary of the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan with a large-scale display of military equipment left behind at the site of a former U.S. military base. Ryan told the DCNF that the current, rapidly emerging threat from Afghanistan should be a national security concern for the United States.
“I just don't believe that threat is being adequately addressed. The threat of Taliban terrorism and what's going on inside Afghanistan should be a top priority. I think it's as important as the fentanyl crisis. It's as important as what we're dealing with with China,” Ryan said. “We nearly wiped it out of the region, and now it's back, as if we were never there.”
Biden: said “Responsibility is [him]He continues to defend the withdrawal as a “successful operation,” but Vice President Kamala Harris' role in the operation recently Circulated of mediaGiven that she is now the Democratic presidential nominee, Harris advised Biden during the planning process, ensuring she was “the last person in the room.” asked Remarks made by a CNN reporter in early 2021.
Ryan told the DCNF that Harris, like everyone else involved, bears responsibility for the disastrous operation. (Related story: Biden-Harris administration reportedly preparing to restart fraud-plagued migrant flight program)
“If she was involved in the scheme, then she's responsible. She was his top adviser, so she's absolutely responsible,” Ryan said. “In a broader sense, actually, it's probably more her fault than his, because he's totally incompetent to run a country, so I mean, she was pulling the strings behind the scenes.”

Ryan also seemed skeptical of Harris' choice of Democrat Tim Walz, the Minnesota governor, as a viable running mate. Walz has come under fire for appearing to exaggerate his military service while in office. Harris' campaign said Walz “is a very good choice for the Democratic Party, and he's a good choice for the Democratic Party.”I said something wrong.” He said it once, but he was never trying to embellish his record.
Ryan, a military veteran who served in multiple combat operations for more than a decade, told DCNF he was skeptical of the claims.
“I think it's unfortunate that someone who has reached such a high rank would be dissatisfied with his service and feel the need to exaggerate or even lie about what he did while in the service. He should just be proud of what he actually did, if anything at all,” Ryan said. “I've seen too many people who exaggerate and lie about their military careers, what they saw and did. When it comes to the service, the truth always comes out and I won't tolerate anyone getting away with lying.”
Commenting on the election, Ryan told the DCNF that whoever becomes the next commander in chief will be tasked with leading national security and foreign policy at a critical time of global tensions, including ongoing wars in Europe and the Middle East and a burgeoning U.S. conflict with China. Addressing the U.S.'s most immediate external concerns, the southern border and the migration crisis, are urgent priorities, Ryan said.
“I think it's going to be turbulent no matter who wins,” Ryan told DCNF, “but if Trump wins and some of the policies he talks about start to take effect, I think things will start to turn around very quickly as those policies take effect.”
