Solidarity HealthShare is calling on the incoming Trump administration to make far-reaching changes to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to fix “the nation’s broken health care system.”

They are calling for FDA regulations to be lifted. By “overhauling the FDA’s patent restrictions,” the U.S. could also allow alternative treatments and “unleash medical innovation.”

The FDA’s current patent restrictions are partly responsible for soaring drug prices by blocking off-brand versions of products from patent approval and preventing competition to keep prices low. According to At the America First Institute for Policy Studies.

Solidarity also cites “big pharmaceutical companies, big insurance and big hospital systems” as contributing to the bureaucratization of health care.

Environmental concerns also prompted the letter of solidarity, encouraging future administrations to implement stricter regulations on air and water pollutants that contribute to Americans’ poor health.
