A body was found near where Slater went missing, but has not been identified. Telegraph Police reported a possible accident had occurred.
A post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, purports to show a video of the missing teenager being harassed and beaten. The video shows what appears to be a Snapchat story of a young man being brutally beaten.
The text overlay reads, “Jay Slater, guys, this was posted on LiveLeak about an hour ago and has since been removed.”
The caption reads, “I'm not sure but it looks like Jay Slater is hiding out.”
This claim is inaccurate. This video is 10 years ago The video was uploaded to Russian social media site Vkontakte. Google translated the video's title as “I will smash Allah like a rat.”
DNA testing of the recovered remains will be carried out to confirm that it is Slater's.
