FACT CHECK: No, Video Doesn’t Show Lebanese Tanks Advancing Into Israel

video shared on facebook The video claims to show Lebanese tanks advancing into Israel.

Verdict: False

The video shows Algerian tanks, not Lebanese tanks.

Fact check:

According to CNN, Israel has expanded its ground invasion into southern Lebanon. According to the report, Israel launched an invasion in October with the stated purpose of forcing Hezbollah to retreat north of the Litani River, 19 miles from Israel’s northern border.

Social media users have been sharing videos of the tanks, claiming they show Lebanese tanks preparing to invade Israel. “Breaking news…’Lebanese tanks advance towards possible attack on Israel,'” one user wrote.

This claim is false. Check Your Fact did a reverse image search and found that the video shows an Algerian tank, not a Lebanese tank. A similar video of the same column of tanks posted on Instagram on November 1 shows a person waving an Algerian flag as the tanks move down the road.

A video from an Algerian news agency states that this year is Algeria’s 70th anniversary of independence. The same tank can be seen around the hour mark of the video.

“Live. The largest military parade of the Algerian army under the supervision of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune,” the video title reads. (Related: Will NYPD require officers to wear pronouns on their uniforms?)
