The US Special Forces is training for the Mexican military. They don’t take on cartels.

Social media users claim that the Mexican Senate has approved US special forces to take on the cartel. One user wrote: The Trump administration has designated the cartel as a “foreign terrorist organization” and they are trying to pay for the American lives they have taken! ”

There is no evidence of this claim. Media outlets such as Border Reportreports that the Mexican Senate has approved the US military that trained Mexican military. They are not fighting the cartel.

Ioan Grillo, an independent journalist covering Mexico and the cartel, said the claim was false in response to Tesla owner Elon Musk, who amplified the claim.

“The Mexican Senate did not fully approve of US special forces to come to Mexico and fight cartels. They allowed them to train Mexican soldiers. I know anything about this. Anyone who’s doing that knows it’s BS,” Grillo tweeted.
