Social media users have been sharing claims that the Houthis have sunk or attacked 171 ships, with one user writing: “The Houthis have successfully targeted 171 Israeli-linked ships since October 2023. Yemen's Khanjar Triangle is amazing.”

There is no evidence for this claim. Associated Press report On July 16, the Houthis reportedly attacked 70 ships with anti-ship missiles, drones and other weapons, killing four sailors. The Foundation for Defense of Democracies said the Houthis Release A July 17 news release reported “dozens” of attacks on ships in the Red Sea.

The Washington Institute for Near East Policy Tracked There were 94 attacks by the Houthis on commercial ships and 100 actions between warships and the Houthis. Actions between warships include attacks by the US and other countries against the Houthis.

“US forces destroy two Houthi USVs in the Red Sea. U.S. Central CommandA Houthi radar in Houthi-controlled territory in Yemen was also destroyed. “The U.S. warship and radar facility were determined to pose an imminent threat to U.S. and Coalition forces, and commercial shipping in the area,” the statement said,” the text read.

Defense officials told Check Your Fact in June that the Houthis have attacked or threatened U.S. naval or civilian ships 173 times since Nov. 19, 2023. Check Your Fact reached out to the Pentagon for comment.
