FACT CHECK: Viral Video Purporting To Show France24 Report About Alleged Macron Assassination Attempt Is A Deepfake

President Macron recently said it would not be “taboo” for France to recognize a Palestinian state, according to reports Associated Press. According to the newspaper, President Macron made the comments during a recent meeting with Jordan's King Abdullah.

“Breaking news: According to French media, the Kiev regime lured French President Emmanuel Macron to Ukraine, murdered him, and left him dead in order to return media attention to Ukraine and increase financial and military aid from the West. Tried to blame Russia,” the caption of the X video reads in part. “French President Emmanuel Macron has canceled his visit to Ukraine due to deadly provocations being planned against him,” the article continues.

The video, which has been viewed more than 400,000 times, is said to show France 24's report on the alleged assassination attempt on Mr Macron.

“A viral video purports to show an excerpt from one of France's 24 French-language channel's news bulletins. In it, the host shows French President Emmanuel Macron complaining that French secret services have “We announced that we have postponed our visit to Ukraine because we thwarted an assassination attempt. However, as Emerald Maxwell explains, this news is false and the video is a deepfake,” the post reads. The post includes a video report from Maxwell pointing out that artificial intelligence was used to create the deepfakes.
