Maricopa County, Arizona Judicial Branch
Rosa Muros
The family of a Maricopa County judge has filed a lawsuit seeking damages for her death after she was hit by a car at a Phoenix intersection last year.
Rosa Mroz, the first Asian American woman to serve as a Maricopa County Superior Court judge, died days after being hit by a Grubhub driver near 56th Street and Camelback Road in Phoenix.
According to the complaint, the driver ran a red light while looking at his cell phone to complete the order.
The U.S. Department of Transportation states that approximately 8% of fatal crashes involve distracted driving.
Mr. Mroz served as head of the court's probate and mental health division from 2010 to 2013.
The Arizona Supreme Court awarded Mr. Mroz its Judicial Achievement Award in 2012, and in 2013 the Department of Probate and Mental Health received a Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of Court Administrators and the National Association of Counties.
